Blackwell’s Five-minute Veterinary Consult — Ruminant is a comprehensive, well-organized, and readable text. The book is edited by a respected author and has three consulting editors and over two hundred contributors from around the world. The book has two tables for the contents; the first one provides an alphabetical list of frequently encountered clinical signs and recognized diseases. The second table of contents (contents by subject) contains twenty entities. Those include an entity for each body system disease in addition to camelid and neonatal diseases, diagnostics, emerging animal diseases, immune function, management, milking systems, non-traditional species, nutritional diseases, parasitology, and toxicology. The text for each clinical sign, disease, or topic comprises six main headings (basics, diagnosis, treatment, medications, follow-up, and miscellaneous) and several sub-headings. This is inconvenient for readers that would like to trace back or follow up on certain information. The book is accompanied by a CD that includes an additional 175 topics covering management, husbandry, reproduction, and diagnostics; most of which are interesting and informative to food animal and ruminant practitioners.
